My Favorite Female Poets
These are the ones I find myself reading over and over again.
Sappho.
In Aeolic Greek or translation. Yes most of her extant opus is fragments, scattered lines and stanzas from longer works surviving as quotes in other writers but oh what beautiful fragments!
Any Japanese Heian woman poet but particularly
Ono no Komachi
Izumu Shikibu
I also enjoy
Christina Rossetti
Dont just read Gobln Market. She wrote many other poems.
Japan's best known Haijin or haijo is
CHIYO
Li Ching Chao
is one of China's best and most beloved Female poets.
Marie de la France
is known for her Lays written on Old French.
Mexico's
Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz
wrote prose and poetry.
I recommend Australia's
Judith Wright
Finally have you ever read teh final section of the Book of the Proverbs in the Old Testament.
Yes I mean the "I am Wisdom" section? If this isnt an example of "Anonymous was a Woman" I would be very surprised!
