This is an excellent general history of Iran and a country and culture and its influence over the centuries on other countries from prehistory up to to modern times.
SHADOWS IN THE DESERT
Ancient Persia at War
Dr Kaveh Farrokh 2007
Ancient Persia at War
This focuses more on military history but is work with an "Insider's" view of history.
Whether your interest is just IRAN or World History these books are enjoyable and well researched. They cover Ancient Persia Parthia Iran and much more including the Islamic Conquest. If you're a librarian I would strongly recommend adding them to your history section. (many thnaks from me to whoever did buy them for the library)
