Shadow and Betrayal
Daniel Abraham
IT is rare to see an original fantasy concept but Abraham's ANDAT are!
In the cities of the Khaiem certain poets can make ideas into solid forms known as Andat. The price for this is that the poets are bound to their andat slaves who have gone from being formless spirits to self aware slaves who either die with their creators or are rebound to the poet's successor.
For the Andat death is freedom from the plots and politics of humans.
A war is brooding between the Khaiem city states and the Galts who are developing technology to replace economic dependence on the Khaiem's Andats whose powers include melting stone or rendering humans sterile.
Poets aristocrats andat and others become bound and unbound from their tangled fates by random acts of kindness and delibarate plots for destruction.
This is a double edition containing the first two books in the Long Price Quartet, A Shadow in Summer and A Betrayal in Winter. The original books came out in 2006 and 2007.
Enjoy!
