Byron's Don Juan
Have you ever read Byron's Don Juan? No not just excerpts in anthologies but the whole poem? Have you? It's been described by some as a mock epic because of its satire of several themes including Gothic melodramas and romances but its also an unfinished novel in verse about the misadventures in life and love of the unfortunate Don Juan.
Reasons you should read ALL of DON JUAN?
Satire Parody Brilliant use of ottava rima verse Romance Adventure Comedy Love Sex Passion Cannibalism Pirates and English Aristocrats misbehaving at a house party.
Yes its the sort of book that that you have to refer to footnotes to explain some references the first time you read if you're not familiar with the historical events and details but its worth the effort. Byron was bad mad and dangerous to know and some of his descendants were also eccentric to say the the least but he is indeed one of England or Scotland's greatest poets.
