CAPTAIN'S FURY
Book Four of the Codex Alera
Jim Butcher
Jim Butcher's books have strong characters, primary and secondary, excellent and intriguing world building, and great plotting and action!
If you cant wait for the papercover and have not read this yet get your library to buy the WHOLE series ! Fortunately mine seems to be! Next week I'll be reading and blogging about Princep's Fury the latest in this series. These two are Books Four and Five and still only available in Hardcover alas!
Tavi's adventures continue. More and more people including Tavi himself have been tallying up the evidence and have realised just who Tavi's Father and Grandfather are.
This adds to the problems he's already trying to solve.
Various rivals planning his death. An arrogant Senator intent on taking over his Legions. The Canim Forces and thier Alliance with a newly formed Legion of escaped and liberated slaves. The only way he can get these people on side is to free Varg from prison.
Meanwhile Amara Bernard and Gaius are trying to put a final end to the Kalare problem.
If they can the jungle on foot without using furies to reach their gaol.
Tavi may be the central character but the rest of the cast of family friends allies and enemies are characters you can enjoy.
Then there's the continuing mystery of just what the furies are. They seem to be elementals yet some of them acquire personalities (near) sentience and behave like programmable nanoswarms or robots if devices could form telempahtic bonds?. Other wild furies behave like angry gods.
Why can only humans one of the youngest races on Alera's world fully control and manifest them?
And just how did those First Romans reach Alera?
More answers in Princep's Fury?
Due December 2009 First Lord's Fury
Jim Butcher also writes the Dresden Files Watch for Turncoat in April!
