The Coroner's Lunch
Colin Cotterill
Laos 1976. The Pathet Lao have taken control and appointed the relucant Dr. Siri Paiboun a former army surgeon who had hoped to retire after serving the revolution to be Coroner. Without any training for the role but a pile of old medical texts written in French.
And to add to his problems Siri sees ghosts and spirits and has to find out how three Vietnamese officials ended up in a lake and then his morgue.
Sleuthing satire and socialism in South East Asia in the 70s.
This series is great fun. I wish I had discovered it sooner!
