Fidlema and her partner Eadulf is the main characters of a series set in 7th century AD Ireland with occassional trips to other part sof Europe. In those days Munster was Muman and the Church in Ireland still had conhospitae and higher education for both sexes.
Fidlema is a trained Brehon but also a "lay cleric" something like a Celtic equivalent of an "abbe" ordained but not a priest or pastor. What she does do is function as an investigator for her brother the current ruler na dthe church solving murders and mysteries.
If you like the historiclal detective genre consider a visit to ancient Eire!
I've jsut finished Master of Souls and I beleive the next book Dancing with Demons is out in Abbeys in the city? Hopefully the library will buy it soon!
