Mustard Seed Garden

September 9th 2009 10:14
The Mustard Seed Garden
Manual of Painting.
Translated and edited by Mai-mai Sze. 1956.

If you're a serious student of Chinese art you must read this book. Yes must!

This is an excellent translation with pictures and notes into English of a famous Chinese classic. It's based on the 1887 Shanghai edition of the Chieh Tzu Yuan Hua Chuan a book which was first published in 1679. Originally printed with woodblocks its been continually in print in various mediums in Chinese and this century translations into several other languages, such as French, Japanese. I dont know if anyone has turned it into an e-book yet but I imagine this should happen soon.

Look for it!
