Oxford and Cambridge
An Uncommon History
Peter Sager 2005
Oddly this is a translation from German but fortunately a very good and smooth one.
I didnt even know it was translated until I reread the fine print for the publishers date!
This says something to those in the know about the quality of the translation!
It could just as easily be called OXCAM Gossip cos it has stories and legends galore and lots of trivia about the history culture architecture and local traditions of both university cities including the names of a college tortoise, an Oxbridge glossary and a list of famous graduates !
A big book but fun for scholars and Anglophiles!
The author is clearly a fan of English detective fiction as he makes several mentions of Inspector Morse and other detectives.
Enjoy! However you might want to borrow this one from the library? It 's over 400 pages!
Ah well carrying library books home serves as extra weightlifting!
