While I enjoyed Paretsky' novel Bleeding Kansas I have missed Victoria Iphigenia Warshawki, a Chicago P.I. of mixed Italian Jewish Polish Catholic origins and Peppy and Mitch her dogs and Mr. Contreras.
V.I.'s visiting niece and an old baseball her father locked away for some reason turn out to have some very ironic links with an old civil rights case and a missing person VI is asked to find.
Irony Tragedy Action Politics Corruption Gangleaders and some long delayed Justice for the Dead and Wounded Survivors.
Classic PI fiction. If they teach PI lit in some college somewhere Paretsky's book should be on the reading list! At the top! Quality can be popular! and Vice versa.
I loved it. I hope you will too!
