This is the latest and the 18th book in the Sister Fidelma series set in ancient Ireland.
Fidelma is a princess sister to the King of Muman (now called Munster) and is a "lay cleric" (well thats probably the best translation of her religious position in modern terms) who is also a qualified dalaigh or lawyer / investigator. The High King has been murdered and Fidelma summoned to Tara to find out WHY. The authorities know who killed the King but not why? The answer seems to be a conflict between the a cult of the "Old Faith" and the Christian Church but there's a twist at the end. It was a crime of passion but ...
