Don't Sleep, There are Snakes

Life and Language in the Amazonian Jungle

Daniel Everett 2008

The Piraha or Hiaitiihi people are one of those odd tribes with simple life styles but strange languages that seem to be created to give linguists nervous breakdowns and bedevil missionaries with their disinterest in conversion.

Everett's book about his studies of this people is a fascianting portrait of life in a remore area of the Amazonian riverlands and also shows how such research can be relevant useful and challenging to standard theories and preconceptions.

But you dont have to be a linguist or anthropologist to enjoy this book!

Read it and be challenged and travel to far places.
