After the intensity of the last 2 novels in this series Laurie King gives her characters a vacation or rather a job that 's half vacation and half irritation.
Yes there's danger action thrills adventure but imagine what happens when Russell and Holmes are manipulated by Mycroft into checking up on a megalomanic film producer who may be a smuggler who is currently planning to film in Portugal and Morocco a movie with a story within a story about a movie about Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penazance.
This being the 1920s REAL pirates end up getting involved and there's escapes out of harems terror on the high seas seasickness a famous Portugese poet shenigans involving goats and flowers and a pirate prince and well it sounds like a bizarre muddle but its thoroughly enjoyable!
