PIRATE SUN
Book 3 of VIRGA
The Virga trilogy by Karl Schroeder is a pleasure you should not deny yourself!
The first two books were Sun of Suns and Queen of Candesce.
Virga is a balloon shaped habitat 5000 km across whose skin is a thick nanotube carbon compound lined with icebergs. Within rotating habitats made of anything from ropes and wood to metal provide gravity for humans animals and plants but everyone and any thing else swims flies floats pedals or uses jets to travel and live in zero gravity.
Many hitech devices especially electronic ones do not for a reason hinted at and finally fully revealed in this novel. Fir Virga is the one place in the Vega system where Artifical Nature does not dominate and transform all.
Admiral Fanning has to escape his prison get home and liberate his people from the insane paranoid Pilot with the help of a rogue Guard member and the threat of an invasion by teh agents of Artifical Nature. Tampering with Candesce in the first novel has lowered the protective barriers and things are awakening in the outer dark beyond the light of the fusion lamps that serve as microsuns for Virga.
Karl Schroeder brings the trilogy to a splendid conclusion and leaves room for future novels and stories without leaving plotlines unresolved.
Schroeder has also written Permanence and Ventus. Enjoy!
