The Poetic Mandarin
Liu Yang
Remember an AGNSW exhibition called The Poetic Mandarin? This is the book of the catalogue for that display of works from the James Hayes Collection.
Who would find this book useful? Students of Chinese culture language and poet and of course calligraphers! There are many excellent examples of Chinese calligraphy and verse mostly in kai shu and "running" or semicursive script and several in clerical and seal script forms. Frankly I'm surprised more libraries have not acquired copies. I found and borrowed this copy from a TAFE library. I'm actually a little shocked Chatswood library didnt buy a copy.
Whether you're a reference librarian looking for new stock or a calligrpahy student this is a must read and hopefully acquire. Given the smaller size of this edition the information content is quite dense. Enjoy!
