The Potter's Challenge

Bernard Leach

This book really needs to be re-issued in color for students of ceramics.

I put off reading it until recently as I worked my way down the reading list.

It's an older book with black and white photo illos but the image quality is quite high for a book published in the early 70s.

The Potter's Challenge is an extended and revised editon by David Outerbridge with extra materila of an earlier book by Leach called A Potter's Portfolio that came out in 1951.

I particularly recommend it not only for the remarks on pottery by Leach but his selection of images that show a wide variety of shapes and forms, techniques, and styles, of pottery from Asia and Europe ranging from prehistory to modern times.

Read it. It will give you ideas, inspiration, and information, whether your purpose is to learn about pottery for your own pleasure or to shape your own creations.

Enjoy!
