You may find this work second hand or in a library? You will probably find on reading it that many of the ideas have been borrowed without acknowledgement of their source by later writers of style guides. That's one reason to read it.
Other reasons:
Finely crafted prose about intresting challenging concepts.
The Book is a collection of !@ Lectures given to "Q" to Cambridge University students on the subject of Writing and Literature and Style. He discusses such topics as practicing writing, the differences between verse and prose, jargon, principles of writing, the Lineage of English Literature, and STYLE!
You may find some of the vocabulary somewhat archaic and younger readers, even if you're tertiary lit majors will have to hit the dictionary for some words, especially if you have ZILCH Latin, but its worth the effort.
These essays contian the kind of obversatiosn that become, embody, and support CLASSICS, in any language.
