The Poetry of the Buddhist Nun Rengetsu
Translated by John Stevens
I'm rereading this book because it is currently to my knowledge the only book of English translations of her verse and I certainly cant find many websites. There are anthologies and websites that include some of her works as a poet, calligrapher, painter, and potter, but none that I can find in English or Japanese SOLOLY devoted to her works!
LOTUS MOON is English only. The Japanese text is alas not given !
It is however a delightful and useful work which will soon be joined by another book on Rengetsu. There's an exhibition of her work on currently at the National Gallery down in Canberra which I gggrrr cant get to ... sob whimper grumble ... but the National Gallery will be publishing a book called like the show
BLACK ROBE WHITE MIST
I will certainly be keeping an eye out for it.
For more information on the show and the forthcoming book see the National Gallery's Rengetsu Site
Wikipedia also has a short article on her. A Google search sadly only found a few sites!
If anyone knows where I can find her verse in Japanese please let me know?
