Edwin Muir (1887 - 1959) was a noteworthy Scots writer who wrote in English rather than Lallans having been born on the Orkney Islands and later moving to Glasgow as a teenager.
In 1935 a freidn gave him the loan of an old car for one summer.
On his way to meet his family for a summer vacation he dorve through the Lowlands visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow and then north through the Highlands and also visitng his home island.
Scottish Journey is his account not just of his tour but of how he saw the state of Scotland as a country in 1935, the politics, economy and people.
This in one of those books you frequently seen othe ruahtors refer to but have trouble finding. Fortuanately a copy showed up on a local fete stall.
