Kate Elliott's prior fantasy epic was the Crown of Stars series whihc ended up running to seven books. Seven VERY good books though! If teh first two books in this new sereis are anything to judge by regula visits to the World of the Hundred should be worthwhile and enjoyable.
The First book introduced us to a group of realms where the Nine Gods sent gifted nine human guardians with a form of not quite immortality but more invunerablity and other gifts as well to promote Justice. A century of more ago they disappeared leaving justice and peacekeeping to the Reeves who bond with and ride giant eagles.
Now it seems the Guardians have returned or have new people filled their cloaks and taken their powers? More of the mystery of what happened to the Guardians and how their powers work is revealed in this book. Marit has returned to life. Reeve Joss has allied himself and the Reeves with the Qin exiles. We learn who the blonde mute girl is.
Kate Elliott skillfully introduces us to new characters, shows us more of older characters, and mades us regret the deaths of even evil ones by showing us beings far more evil .
One warning you will defintely need to read the first book before you start this one. The interwoven plots form a complex tapestry but you will enjoy that weaving!
