Some books on Basho and Haiku
To go with my post on Basho's most infamous haiku here's some suggested reading.
One Hundred Famous Haiku
Daniel Buchanan
Yes I've reviewed this one before but its worth mentioning again!
His translation and notes on Fukuike ya are on p. 88
The Classic Tradition of Haiku
Dover Thrift Editions An Anthology ed by Faubian Bowers.
Gives all the major haiku writers with with the text in romaji and several different translations and notes ... may be out of print?
BASHO The Narrow Road to the Deep North and other Travel Sketches.
There's a newer revised version of this Penguin Classic which I have not read yet.
The Master Haiku Poet MATSUO BASHO Makoto Ueda 1982 Kodansha
The two books listed above you will see mentioned in many other articles on Basho.
They are worth acquiring as both are by Japanese authors .
I have a few other books on Haiku.
Next timeI write about Haiku I may tell you about ISSA or Henderson 's strange use of couplets to translate haiku?
bye for now !
Please let me know if you've found these books useful when you get to read them?

Do you have a fav orite poet who's Japanese ?
Katyzzz and others ask your local library if they'r epart of an interlibrary loan network.
You may be able to borrow some of these books I mention even if the local library is limited!
If you live near a university library they may have some of these works and may allow non students to read or photocopy books at the library!
I will hopefully be doing another blog on Basho later this year.
Thank you for visiting!
