Sor Juana's La Respuesta is a famous prose essay written by a Mexican nun in the 17th century defendng her right to be a scholar.
Maybe you've seen quotes from this in anthologies and want to read the whole piece?
I found a a translation of the whole essay online!
You can also link to this page and other Sor Juana resources, her poetry, letters, and dramas, in Spanish and English from the Other Women's Voices site.
Its a challenging piece reflecting her frustration and pain. Unfortunately she was forced to sell her library and died a few years later while nursing her sister nuns during a plague!
Highly recommended!
If you choose to read this essay or have already read this essay in English or Spanish I'ld love to know you felt after reading it?
