The Steel Remains
Richard Morgan
Richard Morgan is an award winning writer of SF novels:
Altered Carbon, Broken Angels, Woken Furies, Market Forces, and Black Man.
The cover blurbs are actually quite accurate. Morgan does tkae the cliches and subvert them. His hero is Ringil is a warrior who's homosexual and hence exiled to a small country town more tolerant than a capital dominated by religious and military factions with astrict morality and a monotheism that has recently made slavery legal.
One of his cousins has been sold into slavery and Ringil's mother asks him to free her and return her to the family home.
Archeth is a half ... not ELF but kiriath a hitech race of transdimensional travellers who have left her behind to journey elsewhere.
Egar is a steppes barbarian who craves the luxuries of civilazation like literacy and poetry and women who bathe regularly.
These three had once fought in a battle agaisnt the Scaled Folk.
Something far worse than the Scaled Folk is coming or rather returning to the Yhelteth Empire ... the dwenda.
This book compares to be a set up for a new series since the return of the dwenda brings all three major characters together in the books final chapters as plots and destinies converge on a world that may be our own in the far future?
VERY ADULT SWORD AND SORCERY about how a "Dark Lord" Rises but which character will become the Dark Lord?
Interesting Disturbing Edgy.
