St John of the Cross Poems
Translated by Roy Campbell
St John of the Cross was a Spanish Carmelite Saint and a friend and contemporary of St. Teresa
There was many famous Spanish writers and writers from Central and South America who wrote in Spanish such as Sor Juana de la Cruz, Cervantes, Octavio La Paz, Lope de Vega, and Calderon.
These are Spiritual songs for the Bride to the Beloved, Romances and Ballads about the Quest of the Soul for union with the Divine.
They are perhaps best summed up by the final quatrain of the book.
Suma de la perfeccion
Olvido de lo criado Ignoring the created and inferior
Memoria del Criador Remebering above all things the Creator
Atencion a lo intrerior Attention to the lifee that is interior
Y estarse amando al Amado. For the Beloved love thats always greater
Olvido de lo criado Ignoring the created and inferior

Atencion a lo intrerior Attention to the lifee that is interior
Y estarse amando al Amado. For the Beloved love thats always greater
This is one of the great classics of both poetry and spirituality and a beautiful elegant translation. My editon had the original spanish on the page facing the translation.
Highly recommended !!!
