This one is a personal favorite. Many other books on Sumi-re are now available but this one is one of the first books I ever read about East Asian INK painting.

It'a rich complex useful book full of info ranging from a discussion and analysis of the compositions in Asian art thru to paper and brushs and examples of modern 20th sumi-e.

Having first read this over 20 years ago I was quite delighted to come across it in the TAFe library.


It's a large book which may be on the quarto or reference shelves if your library has a copy but do try and find it. ... and other books on sumi-e.

You'll enjoy it if you love reading about and viewing Asian style painting.

There's a lovely cover reproduction of Mu Ch'i 's Monkeys also reproduced and discussed as part of the original set of three works on page 40.
