Summer at the Library

Summer at the Library

Christmas is fast approaching.

Galaxy Sydney's first and best scifi shop has lots of interesting new stuff in as do the other bookshops! Visit it at York St a couple of doors down from Abbeys and across from the QVB building.

Borders is selling a reprint that Aussie cookbook icon the Commonsense Cook book in hardcopy so if you have a discount voucher or havnt blow out your credit / debit card yet witht eh Xmas shopping and have an old copy falling apart ...

I actually had to pester .... hunt down .... er ask the Borders staff for a copy of the latest Kerry Greenwood. Her latest Phryne Fisher adventure takes us to Melbourne in 1929 in the middle of a hot summer looking into a "drowning", blackmail, and a missing heir.

Borders Hint: if its in the self service computer but not in the floor they probably have a copy in the shipping area.

Where else can we get books? Well since no one (whimper) has generously donated Amazon Gift Certificates or any of the items on my Amazon Wish List to me I 'm a VERY regular library user.

(Here's a link to my Amazon Wish List from my
Geocities website which also has a Paypal link for donations. This blog's adsense earnings while slowly rising have not yet even reached the level of say covering my monthly UNwired ISP fees? Yes that is a totally unsubtle hint but I'm facing six weeks with no or minimal pay!)

Back to the topic of Libraries...TAFE has shut down for the year. I can catch up on reading.

Being a wise and experienced library user I have checked the catalogue so I have some summer reading set up. The rest of you however might want to get down to the library before the good stuff has been borrowed or reserved?

At the request of the two libraries I'm a member and user of here's a plug for their libraries.

Chatswood does still have a (interim) library despite the big hole in the ground where it previously was! If you're using the Westfield Car Park and drove past the Sony store ... that's in the Mandarin Centre and the Interim Library is on the second level!

Or walk down the mall from the station and bus terminal and turn right at the sign for hte post office and keep going past the post office. The entrance is near the Kathmandu store.

Visit it and join if you're a Willoughby City resident.

You can access the library online and check the catalogue for Chatswood and Shorelink via the council site.

Hornsby 's site and online catalogue is linked to Hornsby Council
From Hornsby Mall and the station you either walk down George st and up that paved lane between the Information centre which the library is behind and the big building where the call centre staff stand outside chain smoking or go thru the mall and there's a men's clothing store and a chemist on the other side of a lane that leads down to the Library from the mall.

Use your Library this Summer! The air conditioning works. There are magazines and reading areas. Both libraries have a New Books display and computers you can use if yours is malfunctioning at home. If your kids are whining about being bored make them borrow some books while you're shopping and tell them you're not buying them any thing more until they meet you carrying freshly borrowed library books! Oh there are CD Videos and DVDs you can borrow too!

Use your Library this Summer!
