This is the third book in a series set in early 19th century Istanbul.
The first book in this series was The Jannisary Tree followed by The Snake Stone.
The main character is Yashim the Eunuch who serves the Sultan and the Ottoman Empire by solving problems. This time he's asked to find a missing painting that may be in Venice and purchase it. Palewski and Yashim journey to Venice and thru peril and danger and murder and a little love.
Jason Goodwin has also written travel books and an excellent history of the Ottoman Empire . Try also The gunpowder Gardens and On Foot to the Golden Horn along with Lords of the Horizon. I read the first book in this series the Jannisary Tree because I had read his excellent history Lords of the Horizon.
