Jennifer Fallon has taken us to the world of Medalon and the Harshini in two series of books and also to the politics of a lost colony of humans in another series.
In the Tide Lords she takes us to a world which has twenty two immortals who are despised as near demons in legends, or worshiped by a minority as the Tide Lords by normal mortals. Some of this group of immortals have powers that allow them to destroy continents and others barely any power at all but whatever their powers they wax and wane over the centuries.
The Tide has been out but now its coming in and their powers are waxing.
One of those immortals wearying of eternal life has tried to get himself killed and failed but in doing so has come to the attentions of the Duchess of Lebec a historian who is going to find out the terrible truth behind those legends as the Tide comes back in and the gods come out of their hiding places.
The fourth book in this series is due out later this year.
