TIME SPIKE
Eric Flint and Marilyn Kosmatka
Ring of Fire is loosely linked to another sequel of SF novels called the Ring of Fire about an American town called Grantville which is suddenly shifted thru time and space to Northern Germany in the middle of the Thirty Year War. however in this book the Time spike strikes again and moves an entire US prison and its guards and occupants from 20th centruy Southern Illinois back to the Jurassic along with Amerinds from several eras and cultures, a group of Cherokee and their guards from the Trail of Tears, parts of the city of Cahokia and surrounding area of Cahokia and a scattering of others living in the area, and unfortunately the De Soto expedition.
These diverse human groups have to fight or ally with each other against the dangerous predators inside the prison walls and roaming outside.
Feel sorry for the Dinosaurs!
Eric Flints cowriter for this book has worked for the US prison system so her depiction of the guards and prisoners is fair and sympathetic but realistic.
Good solid SF Action Entertainment.
I wish I had found and read it sooner!
I suspect it was recently donated to the library after a coffee spill since the book has been out for a year or two.
Enjoy!
