Watkin's Tench's 1788
First Hand observations of the
Founding of the Sydney Colony
In 2008 Text Publishing issued a paperback version of the writings of Watkin Tench about the founding of the first European settlement in Australia at Port Jackson.
Tench was an officer of the British Marines and observed the first couple of years of the colony with wit and sympathy writing about encounters with the Aborigines and native animals and explorations of the countryside.
This book is a must have, paperback or hard copy for school and other libraries.
It would be an excellent thing if this became a set text for History or English in Australian schools!
Whether you are a librarian or a history lover I highly recommend it!
