Womens Song in the Bible

March 8th 2009 01:30
Womens Song in the Bible.

It's Sunday and it's IWD so what womens' song and poetry is there in the Bible.

The song of Hannah 1 Samuel Chapter 2

Proverbs Chapters 8 9 The Song of Wisdom section.

Okay the beginning of the book says they're Solomon's proverbs but its not impossible he just complied them from other sources since Chpater 31 is attributed to the Mother of Lemuel whoever that was.

The Song of Solomon
may have been written in its final version by Solomon but shows signs of being derived from or influneced by several separate "folk" song (styles).

In the New Testament there's the well known Magnificat of Mary.

As for the Psalms I wish we knew more. Style variations and text references suggest they're not all by David and that there was some kind of musicians' guild attached to the temple.
