WWZ - Fun with Zombies!

March 26th 2007 03:26
WORLD WAR Z
An Oral History of the Zombie War
Max Brooks

Available in Hardcopy ( I borrowed mine from the library) and as an Audio and E-Book from Crown Publishing a subdiv of Random.

This book is tongue in cheek ZOMBIE fun! I picked it up off the New Book display table cos the excellent cover design by somoen caled David Tran caught my eye. I started skimming thru the pages ... and I had to take it home to finish the rest.

Have you read Oral Histories ... compilations of eye witness reports on historical events.

This book is a fictional oral history of the battle against zombies in the near future based on inteviews.

I'm not a big zombie fan but Max Brooks has done an excelent job of creating the kind of border line parody meta-text whichs a genre and tehn hps and leaps over into several others taking the reader along for a wierd ride thru a near future plagues by zombies!

Max Brooks mock "interviews everyone by foot soldiers to former heads of state with characters ranging form a corrupt millionaire war profiteer, a merc, a castle obsessed british tourist visiting central europe after the war, a former dog handler ( apparently in this reality dachshund - terrier crosses are the best K-9 dogs for zombie detection and herding, a chinese doctor who's one of the first to discover the zombies, various refugees, and many others!

An oddly light horror fantasy that leaves a strange after taste pungent and challenging!?

Experience the living dead and those who fought them!

Random House and Max Brooks have no idea I've done this review but if they 'ld like to send me review copies of any other publications I accept "donations" cheerfully ( hey even the book turns out to be a total waste of trees I can always doante it to the library ...

if you're a lurking pro or PR person email me if you want a honest and quirky product review!

Probably no more book reviews this week until thrusday or Friday. I'm working Teusday and wednesday's schedule is still not fixed!

Meanwhile dont forget to check out other earlier reviews and RESPOND!!!

Thank you for reading this blog!
